SSE Airtricity has inked a deal with KDCR (Ireland) Limited, a wholly-owned entity of Keppel DC REIT, the first pure-play data centre real estate investment trust (REIT) listed in Asia, to switch the energy supply at Keppel DC Dublin 1 (KDC DUB 1) data centre in Citywest to 100% renewable power. The green energy switch is part of KDC DUB 1's efforts to minimise its carbon footprint.

Mr David O'Byrne, Industrial & Commercial Sales Manager, SSE Airtricity, said, 'As Ireland's largest provider of 100% renewable energy, SSE Airtricity knows the importance of partnering with customers who share our commitment towards providing cleaner energy for now and for future generations to come. We're proud that KDCR (Ireland) Limited has chosen SSE Airtricity to provide reliable and secure green energy to the KDC DUB 1 data centre.'

Mr Gary Watson, General Manager of KDC DUB 1, remarked, 'Environmental consciousness and energy efficiency are ranking higher on the checklist for data centre clients, and we are committed to conduct our business in an environmentally-benign manner. We are confident that KDC DUB 1, with its greener footprint, as well as high resiliency and low latency connectivity, will meet the needs of clients seeking quality and sustainable data centres.'

KDC DUB 1 is a highly available and secure data centre located at Citywest Business Campus in South Dublin. The 68,118 square feet facility houses computer servers and networking equipment for use by international blue chip companies and internet enterprises.

Data centres are typically energy intensive due to the high power requirements of on-site IT equipment and the supporting cooling infrastructure required to maintain stable temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions for optimal equipment functioning.

By switching the projected annual energy demand at KDC DUB 1 to 100% renewable energy supply, KDCR (Ireland) Limited will be able to reduce in excess of 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year*.
